MEEN Mission
“The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Program is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to excel in the integration of science and engineering principles to improve the quality of life and to become leaders in mechanical engineering.”
MEEN Program Educational Objectives
The Educational Objectives of the Mechanical Engineering Program are:
PEO 1: To produce graduates who will be engaged in professional practice as mechanical engineers able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
PEO 2: To produce graduates who will demonstrate leadership skills in their professional careers with high standards of ethics.
PEO 3: To produce graduates who will engage in professional development or post-graduate education, to continue their self-development in mechanical engineering or other related fields.
The skills that our students can expect to master in our Mechanical Engineering Program by graduation are rooted in the following Student Outcomes:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
