Pre-Law Program of Study
Law students come from all walks of life and all educational backgrounds. There are many degree programs at Texas A&M University-Texarkana that will prepare you well for a future in legal studies. You should focus your undergraduate courses on whatever discipline interests you the most. Pursue a rigorous course of study, choosing classes that will challenge your writing, reading, and analytical skills. Keep your grades up. Your GPA isn’t the only factor in getting accepted to las school, but it plays an important role.
Phi Delta Phi Pre-Law Honors Association
Participation in A&M-Texarkana's Phi Delta Phi Pre-Law Honors Society will help you prepare for law school by allowing you to be around other students with similar goals. Students in the club coordinate LSAT preparation, visit law schools, study together, and spend time together socially. Phi Delta Phi also hosts public talks and workshops by legal professionals and scholars, as well as films related to the practice of law. You may also join the international society for a small lifetime membership fee.
The LSAT
Your LSAT score is an important part of your application and admission to law school. The Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) is a standardized test administered by the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC). Students typically take the LSAT toward the end of their junior year of college or during the summer before their senior year. A&M-Texarkana is a LSAT testing site. The LSAC also administers the exam online.
Applying for Law School
You should check with specific law schools for their application deadlines and required application materials. Most law schools require that applicants use the Law School Admissions Council's Credential Assembly Service (CAS), so before applying to law school, it is best to open an account with the Credential Assembly Service. You will submit your university transcripts and LSAT scores to the CAS. You will ask your references to write letters and to send them to LSAC and/or to the law schools to which you apply, as specified by each institution’s application process.
