Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces (ALEKS)
The ALEKS is an online placement assessment designed to identify if you are prepared for Calculus I. The ALEKS is required for all students that have Calculus I in their degree plan. Each student who fails to meet the minimum passing standard of the exam must be placed pre-requisite course prior to taking Calculus 1. If you are unsure if you are required to take the ALEKS, contact your Academic Advisor.
Fees and Requirements
The ALEKS is free for A&M-Texarkana applicants. You must have a current application on file, an assigned student ID, and be required to take the ALEKS as part of your major. If you are unsure, email recruitment@tamut.edu for your application status or advising@tamut.edu to confirm if you are required to take the ALEKS.
The ALEKS is a 2 hour timed exam. Students taking the ALEKS have up to three attempts to take the official scored assessments and are required to take a practice assessment before their first attempt. There is a 48 hour cool-down and a required 3 hours of practice modules between each attempt to prepare you for the test.
You are allowed pencil and paper for scratch material. Calculators are provided within the ALEKS software itself.
Placement and Prerequisite Courses
Course placement is determined as follows. You can attempt the ALEKS up to three times to improve your score and course placement. The required practice modules between attempts will help you prepare and improve your placement on your next attempt.
